The Tanciu family is a little hard to define and explain, but I’ll try.
I probably won’t be able to present an actual family tree, but mostly introduce the present day members and maybe work as far back from there as I can.
It’s not one of those large families one reads about, but to the best of my knowledge, none of us have really bothered too much to dig up any long lost relations. Hopefully they will eventually come out of the woodwork and make their existence known.
Essentially there’s a small contingent in the Old Country (Romania) and an even smaller contingent in the New Country (Canada). I belong to the latter, but, through marriage, I have also joined the much larger Soochan family, which is literally spread all over the world.
So let’s see just where I can take this site, how much I can cover.
But maybe first I have to explain where the name Tanciu actually came from.
Once upon a time, back in the 19th century there was a merchant named Papatanciu who hailed from what was then and is again now the country of Macedonia, where there was a pocket of Romanian speaking people. He somehow ended up in Romania and married a local girl. For some reason which escapes me, the last name was contracted to Tanciu.
